The Filler 411: everything you’ve been wanting to know about Filler.

Filler 411:

What is filler?

Filler is a hyaluronic acid based injectable used to plump up volume loss in the face and sometimes even body. Hyaluronic acid based fillers work by drawing fluid to the desired area of the face that needs more of a lift. It is a non invasive procedure that is a great option for those who want to help eliminate the signs of aging without undergoing surgery. Dermal filler can be used for places of volume loss (i.e lips, cheeks, marionette lines etc.) Filler is not a permanent option, depending on the type of filler used, it can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years.

Which filler should I choose?!

Depending on the area, different fillers are used. For lips, the most common is Juvederm Ultra Plus or Ultra. It depends on the amount of volume desired. We recommend Voluma or Lyft, if we are trying to mimic bone (i.e cheek bones, chin, nose, etc.) We have complimentary consultations where a nurse or nurse practitioner can asses you and recommend the filler that would be best for your desired results.

Pre care: Should I do anything before filler?

We recommend stopping any blood thinners (fish oil pills, alcohol, aspirin) a few days before your treatment. Eating pineapple! Fresh pineapple gives the body a natural dose of bromelain which helps speed up the bruising process.

Post care:

We recommend icing the area post treatment as needed, this will help with bruising, we also recommend arnica. Arnica is used to treat bruising, it comes from the “Arnica Montana,” a yellow-orangish flower. If you are prone to cold sores please call our office for additional pre care instructions.
